Robert Burnett

Robert was born July 10, 1866, at Ames, Iowa, son of Thomas and Isabelle Osborne Burnett. He died at his home in Bonaparte Sunday, March 16, 1941, just before noon, aged 74 years, 8 months and 6 days. About three years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis and since that time has been an invalid, being confined to the house the past winter.

While a small child he moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Bonaparte. He spent most of his life on a farm, living in Bonaparte at intervals.

He was married Nov. 16, 1904, to Anna Matlock of Bonaparte, and to this union were born three children: Janice, now Mrs. Florence Randolph of Burlington; Florence, now Mrs. Halsey Rambo of Bonaparte, and Floyd, of Burlington.

As a young man he united with the Bethel Baptist church in the country. In 1898 he transferred his membership to the Mt. Zion Baptist church in Bonaparte where he served as deacon for 38 years and was an active member as long as his health permitted.

Robert Burnett was a good man and a good neighbor. He was devoted to his home and his family. His two grandchildren, Robert Deane Randolph and Patty Burnett were a joy and a comfort to him during his last years.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, two daughters and their husbands, his son and his wife, and the two grandchildren.

He also leaves one brother, Grant Burnett of Milton, the only one remaining of a family of three girls and five boys, besides several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Bonaparte Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock by the pastor, Rev. L.E. Winfrey. Interment in Bonaparte cemetery.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Hornbaker and daughter, Mrs. John McConnell, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Burnett and family, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Randolph and family of Burlington; Alva Burnett and family of Fort Madison; Grant U. Burnett of Milton; and Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Hooper of Newton, Iowa.
