James S. Bell

James S. Bell, 71, of Mount Sterling, died at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

The funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Mike Shea officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Visitation, with family present, will be 10-11 a.m. Friday prior to the service.

Gifts to a memorial to be designated later by the family can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 27183 Lark Ave., Mount Sterling 52573.

Mr. Bell was born Feb. 28, 1943, in Nauvoo, Alabama, the son of Prince Q. and Helen C. Nobblet Bell. He married Ruth Magorian March 24, 1981, in Rock Island, Illinois. She died April 11, 2006.

Mr. Bell worked for John Deere in Moline and Milan, both in Illinois, for 31 years before retiring to his farm near Mount Sterling.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing in his pond and listening to Johnny Cash.

Survivors include: two sons, Jimmy Bell of Durant and Matthew Bell of Mount Sterling; two daughters, Kathy Hoggard and husband Robby of Durant and Theresa Bell of Cumberland, Maryland; two stepsons, Jay Bjork and wife Jennifer of Auburn, Illinois, and Joel Bjork and wife Stephanie of East Moline, Illinois; one step-daughter, Jane Hill and husband Jerry of Silvis, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
