Richard Lee Jones, 66, of Fairfield, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Behner Funeral Home and Crematory.

Richard Lee Jones

Richard Lee Jones, 66, of Fairfield, died Thursday Oct. 10, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Holman officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Pittsburg Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, with the military rites at 6 p.m. at Behner Funeral HOme in Fairfield.

A memorial fund has been established. Cards and memorials may be sent to 207 E. Monroe Ave. Fairfield 52556.

Mr. Jones was born June 7, 1947, in Fairfield, the son of Hubert Edward and Hazel Ewing Jones in Fairfield. He married Rebecca Franklin Oct. 21, 1989.

He was a lifelong resident of Fairfield, and graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1965.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving two terms as company clerk.

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for several years. He also worked at Dexter Foundry as a core boarder cleaner for 26 years.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 2271 and a member of American Legion Post No. 47.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, he made latch hook rugs and enjoyed reading and playing computer games.

Survivors include his wife Rebecca Jones of Fairfield; one daughter, Wendie Conner and spouse Larry of Winfield; son John Hand and spouse Sarah of Columbus City; two grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Jones of Guttenberg and Mike Jones of Redwing, Minn.; and one sister, Sharon Ewing of Fairfield.

He was preceded by his parents and one sister, Carol Miksch.
