Obituary of Mrs. Catherine Hootman

Catherine Ann Mercer was born in Greene county, Ohio, August 1st, 1845. She came to this county with her parents in the year 1849 and settled on the old homestead now known as the old Mercer farm. Here she lived until her marriage with James C. Hootman, September 26, 1867. She lived to celebrate their golden anniversary Sept. 26, 1917. She departed this life Oct. 6, 1917, leaving to mourn her death a husband and four children, also 12 grand children. The children are William H. and Charles of Birmingham, George R. deceased, Mrs. Mary J. Crane of Salem and Jacob D. of Birmingham. She also leaves three sisters and 3 brothers, James and Wesley Mercer of Birmingham, Mrs. Margaret Parker of California, Mrs. Mary E. Fogelsong of Washington, Mrs. Eliza Hootman of Douds-Leando and Arthur of California. She joined the Methodist church a number of years ago and was a faithful member of the White Chapel church, where the funeral services were held Oct. 9th in charge of Rev. E.S. Hehner.
