Obituary of Mrs. Joseph Buckmaster

Cynthia Maxwell was born March 4, 1836, and died April 21, 1917. She was born at Beaverton, Penn., and when a child came to Iowa with her parents. They settled on the south bank of the Des Moines river, near what was then the town of Philadelphia, now Kilbourne. Later they moved to the Weatherington place, which has long been known as the Anderson farm. She was married April 15, 1856, to Joseph Buckmaster. They began housekeeping on the farm two miles north of Kilbourne, which was her home for 38 years. She was the mother of five children: J.W., who died June 30, 1900; Mrs. Lyda Short, Mrs. Nellie Frazee, Robert M. and Mrs. Jennie McShane. Besides her children she leaves, to mourn her death, 18 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of friends. Her husband died December 31, 1891. At the age of 16 years she was converted and since that time has been a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She was the last living member of the family of Robert and Sarah Maxwell. The funeral service was held Monday, April 23, at 2 o'clock, at the Methodist church in Kilbourne, conducted by Rev. Brabbs. Interment in Kilbourne cemetery.
