MRS. SLOAN MAXWELL.

Laura Isabelle Carr was born at Abingdon, Jefferson Co., Iowa, April 23rd, 1852. Had she lived until the 23rd of next month she would have been 58 years old. She was married to Sloan Maxwell, April 7th, 1871, at the home of her parents near Birmingham, Iowa. To this union were born eight children: Robert and Mrs. Bertha Gilbert, who reside near Kilbourne; Mrs. Ella Hootman and Mrs. Salome Ewing of near Mt. Zion; Mrs. Retta Glasgow of Eldon; Charles, who resides west of Birmingham, and Sena at home. A son, Eddie, died April 3rd, 1881. Besides her immediate family there are left to mourn her death a sister, Mrs. Amanda Berrier, of Cokeville, Wyoming, also a host of other relatives and friends. She united with the Methodist church about ten years ago and remained a faithful member until her death, march 6th, 1910. She expressed herself as willing to die, if it was the Master's will, for the sake of her aged companion and daughter. Funeral services were held in the church at Kilbourne, March 8, and interment was in the cemetery there.
