ALTIE MAE TOWNE

Altie Mae Fisher was born in Wapello County, Iowa, April 5th, 1894 and passed away at Sunny Slope Sanitarium at 5 o'clock in the evening of October 16, 1929, after an illness of several weeks duration. She bore her suffering with courage and fortitude, always looking on the bright side. She was married to Clare W. Towne, near Eldon, Iowa, April 7, 1913.

She united with the M.E. church at Kilbourne, Iowa, March 1916 and has always lived an exemplary life. She is survived by her husband, foster daughter Clarice Jean, who she has cared for from earliest babyhood; her mother Mrs. Bertha Fisher, brother Jesse Fisher of near Eldon and sister Mrs. Jesse Slye, of Ottumwa, also a host of other relatives and friends who will never forget her pleasant smile, her kind and gentle ways. Her father passed to the Great Beyond July 20, 1927. She has spent almost her entire life near the place of her birth and although we mourn the passing of one so young the world is better for her having in it.

No sorrow there in yonder clime,
Beyond the troubled waves of time;
No dreary nights or weeping eyes
No aching hearts nor broken ties.

Our hearts are comforted today by the thought of the "Sweet Bye and Bye."

Funeral services were held at Ashland at 2:30 o'clock October 18, in charge of Rev. Smith of Eldon. Her body was placed to rest in the cemetery near by. The pall bearers were Sam Gilbert, Sr., A.J. Stump, Vere Towne, Stanley Hoskin, Sam Gilbert, Jr., and John Taylor, all relatives.

The choir of which she had always been a member, sang several (selections).
