George H. Ryland

George H. Ryland was born at the old Ryland home north east of Bonaparte January 14, 1855. He was a son of A.S. and Mary Ryland, old settlers of this community. George spent his childhood and grew to manhood on the home farm, and his whole life has been identified with the place.

October 15, 1890, George Ryand and Miss Minnie E. Parker, a teacher in the Bonaparte Schools, were united in marriage. He had a home in town all ready to which he took his bride, and here he lived until a few weeks ago, when they moved to their new home on the Ryland farm.

Mr. Ryland was taken suddenly ill soon after dinner Sunday, March 6, and in spite of all that could be done by medical skill or loving care, he died on the morning of March 9th.

He leaves to mourn their loss a devoted wife, and three brothers and four sisters, as follows: F.A. Ryland of Montana, L.H. Ryland of Des Moines, W.B. Ryland of Bonaparte, Mrs. S.A. Murphy of Eldon, Iowa, Mrs. J.A. Dodds of Kansas City, Mrs. E.E. Miller of near Bonaparte, and Mrs. James Murray of Elliston, Montana. A number of nieces and nephews, together with other relatives, and many, many friends are left to mourn their loss, and deplore the death of a good man.

Mr. Ryland was a member in good standing of Bonaparte Lodge No. 73, A.F. and A.M. which brotherhood deeply regret the severing of the earthly ties.

Mr. Ryland was a man of diversified interests, which brought him in daily contact with others, and every one for miles around knew him intimately. Yet among all his acquaintances there were none who did not honor and love him.

At the time of his death Mr. Ryland was 55 years, one month and twenty four days old. His life had been one of constant usefulness and blessing to others, and it seemed that he had just attained to the height of his possibilities when he was stricken. His death is mourned by all, for everyone liked George Ryland.

Funeral services were held at the late home Friday afternoon at two with a short sermon by Rev. Druse. The remains were interred in the Bonaparte cemetery the Masons being in charge.
