The Late Wesley Henry

Wesley Henry was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, on Lincoln’s birthday, 1865, and died at his home in Lincoln township Aug. 13, 1918, at the age of 53 years, 6 months and one day. He was the youngest son of the Rev. Thomas Henry of Pierceville, Iowa, who was also a prominent farmer of that community. He leaves a wife and five children and two grandchildren to mourn his loss, Ora Pearl Keen of Sheldon, Ill., Private Earl G. Henry, in training at Camp Eustes, Virginia, Crystal Fern of Creston, Thomas J. and Esther Lillian at home. Paul Woodrow and Francis Long, the grandchildren, made their home with their grandfather at the time of his death. He was the youngest of 13 children, twelve boys and one girl. They are Samuel, Benjamin, Thomas, Eliza, Lemuel, Dr. Charles M., Alfred C., Susan J. Reason, George, William, John and Wesley. Also a nephew John, who was raised in his grandfather’s home, Samuel, Benjamin, Thomas and Elzy dying in infancy, John and Susan J. in early life. Lemuel, Dr. Chas. M., Alfred C., Reason, William and the nephew John survive him. He was married to Mary G.C. Rogers March 27, 1889, at Bonaparte, Iowa and lived in Van Buren and Henry counties all his life except five years in Union county, three years near Cromwell and two years on the Elliott farm 7 1/2 miles northeast of Creston. His death was not expected at this time and was caused by a violent attack of asthma and other complications. He was a farmer all his life and a thresherman for 38 years. He was a kind loving father. His religion was the Golden Rule and many can testify to his generosity and hospitality. He was always planning how to provide abundantly for his family. His greatest trial was his separation from his son who was called to the colors and is now near his departure to France. In his passing away his family loses a loving husband and father, the community a kind neighbor and friend and his government a staunch patriot who was willing to make the supreme sacrifice that Freedom and Liberty might be preserved for all time. – Creston, Ia., Plain Dealer.
