OBITUARIES
MOTHER AND DAUGHTER

Mary Elizabeth Teal

Mary Elizabeth Norwood, daughter of Ruth and David Norwood, was born December 5, 1844 near New Castle, Pennsylvania, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.J. Barker of Keosauqua, Iowa, at 1:20 P.M., December 29, 1930, at the age of 86 years and 24 days. She came to Iowa with her parents in the year 1852, locating near Keokuk where they lived for about one year. In 1853, they moved to a farm near Utica.

October 10, 1861, she was united in marriage to Thomas H. Teal, who preceded her in death July 4, 1916. To this union were born four children: J.F. Teal of Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. J.H. Keck and Mrs. R.J. Barker of Keosauqua, Iowa; and T.F. Teal (deceased) who are left to mourn her loss; also 16 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jane McDow of San Jose, California. She was a daughter of a Baptist minister and professed faith in Christ when a young woman and united with the Baptist church.

Mrs. Teal loved her home on the farm and it was where her happiest days were spent, ministering to the comforts of her family and watching with a mother's solicitude the growth and development of her children.

We sit in the shadows as loved ones of the passing of our dear mother and grandmother but we cherish of her loving kindness and thoughtfulness.

"When my sun of life is low.
When the dewy shadows creep,
Say for me before I go
'Now I lay me down to Sleep'
I am at the journey's end.
I have sown and I must reap.
There are no more ways to mend
'Now I lay me down to sleep.'
Nothing more to doubt or dare,
Say for me the children's prayer,
'Now I lay me down to sleep.
Who has learned along the way
Primrose path or stony steep
More of wisdom than to say,
'Now I lay me down to sleep'
What have you more wide to tell
When the shadows round me creep?
All is over, all is well -
'Now I lay me down to sleep.'
