Cynthia Esther McLeland was born in Jefferson County, Indiana, July 11, 1846, and passed to her reward at Hunter, North Dakota, December 5, 1921, being 75 years, 4 months and 24 days old to the time of her death.
She moved to Iowa with her parents when but a child, and spent her girlhood days on what is now known as the old McLeland farm, about four miles east of Cantril. She was a daughter of R. N. and Charity Ann (Smith) McLeland, who were among the pioneers of this country. She was united in marriage to Larken H. Loring in 1866 shortly after his return from the Civil War. To this union were born three children, C. N. Loring of Cantril, Iowa, Nora B. Dotson of Nepesta, Colorado, and Mrs. Effie M. Teter, of Hunter, North Dakota, all of whom survive, and were present at the funeral service. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: N. E. McLeland of Palisade, Nebraska; Chas. McLeland, of Omaha, Nebraska; Guy McLeland, of Cantril, Iowa; Fannie Heckinger, of Corning, Col.; and Mrs. W. S. Work of Cantril. Her husband died 49 years ago. She spent all her life in this community, except the last few years which have been spent with her daughters, Mrs. Dotson and Mrs. Teter. She united with the Christian church at this place many years ago and ever remained faithful to the teachings of her Lord.
The funeral service was held from the Christian church, Friday, December 9, 1921, conducted by her former pastor, Eld. P. D. Holloway, of Memphis, Mo., and attended by a large concourse of friends who cherish her memory. Truly a good and faithful woman has passed to her reward.
The family wishes to thank the many kind friends and neighbors who extended aid and sympathy in this hour of bereavement.
