Daniel J. Hecker
Mr. Daniel J. Hecker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hecker, was born Sept. 19, 1867, and suddenly passed away at 11:15 Wednesday night, January 29, 1936, at the age of 69.
He was born in the vicinity of Eelershaursen, Germany, where he lived the early part of his life. He came to this country in 1886, at the age of 19, making his new home in Brooklyn, New York for a number of years. He worked at his trade of carpentry.
From Brooklyn Mr. Hecker went to St. Louis, Mo., working at his same trade.
On the thirtieth of May, 1896, at the age of 29, he moved to Farmington. During that same year, on September 5, he was united in marriage to Katrina Stuhlman. To this union were born two children, Anna Christina and Dorothy Elizabeth, Anna Christina passed away July 28, 1924 at the age of 26.
While Mr. Hecker resided in this town he worked at his trade as carpenter for a number of years, and then went to work on the Keokuk Dam for three years. After that time he worked on both the Rock Island and Burlington roads as a bridge carpenter.
He united in fellowship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Farmington.
Mr. Hecker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katrina Hecker; one daughter, Dorothy Elizabeth; two sisters and two brothers, who are still living in Germany.
The funeral was conducted in the home on Sat., Feb. 1, 1936 at 2:00 P.M. by M.R. Rogers, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Farmington. Mr. Hecker was buried beside his daughter, Anna, in the cemetery adjoining his home.
