Estle Roby
Estle Roby, youngest child of Jacob and Sarah Roby, was born on a farm two miles west of Milton Iowa, on October 12, 1875 and passed from this life at the St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa at 6:30 a.m. on March 31st, 1938.
On December 31st 1899 he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Donahue and to this union two sons, Carl of Milton, Joe of Chicago, and one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Anderson, of Los Angeles California, were born. Mr. Roby had been in failing health for some weeks past and on March 25th it was found necessary that he be taken to the St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa where an operation for appendicitis was performed. Everything that medical science and skilled hands could do was done for him but an over tired heart finally gave way and his life closed to the scenes of this earth. Through it all he was very patient and uncomplaining and always greeted his loved ones with a smile.
Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his departure, nine grandchildren, Edward and Eileen Roby of Milton, William and James Roby of Chicago, Gladys, Lowell, Betty, Marjorie, and Belva Anderson, of Los Angeles, three brothers, S.S., W.H., and Jake of Milton, four nephews, and two nieces, several cousins and a host of friends.
He was a very kind and affectionate husband and father, and grandfather and will be especially missed by his grandchildren. He was also a good neighbor, a true friend and his sunny, kindly disposition will always be remembered by those who have known him. He has spent his entire life within a few miles of Milton and it can be truly said he had no enemies. Everyone with whom he came in contact was his friend.
Funeral services were held at the Milton Christian church, Saturday afternoon, in charge of the Rev. A.M. Hadley. Interment was in Sunnyside cemetery.
