Mrs. Neri Ogden

Fidelia Skinner, daughter of Hugh R. and Isable Ruth Skinner, was born August 13, 1850, on a farm north of Birmingham, Iowa, where she spent her childhood days. While still just a girl she united with the Presbyterian church and remained an active member of the church throughout her life, her devotion increasing each passing year. Her leadership in the Sunday School and Missionary Society was outstanding. She was always a strict observer of the Sabbath. Her worldly goods were carefully tithed to promote the Christian work in which she so firmly believed.

After attending the Birmingham Academy she taught school for a number of years, the last of which were spent in the schools of Newton, Iowa.

On June 29, 1892, she was united in marriage to Neri Ogden, who preceded her in death on August 1, 1923. Mr. Ogden's first wife had died in 1888, leaving him with five small children. Mrs. Ogden proved a real mother to these children, devoted and self-sacrificing, ever keeping uppermost in her mind their highest interests.

After an illness, which had confined her to her bed for more than seventeen months, she passed away at her home in Martinsburg, Iowa, early in the morning of August 17th, at the age of 84 years and 3 days.

She leaves to mourn her loss two daughters, Faye and Martha Ogden at home; one son, John D. Ogden of Tacoma, Washington; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three daughters-in-law, Mrs. Orpha Ogden, of Birmingham, Iowa, Mrs. Mary D. Ogden and Mrs. Jean D. Ogden, of Tacoma, Wash.; besides many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ogden was a kind and thoughtfoul(sp) neighbor, giving of her spiritual, as well as, her material strength. To her many friends she always extended an open hand of hospitality. Her passing leaves a rift in the community that will long be felt.

On Sunday afternoon, August 19, the funeral service was held in the Presbyterian church, made beautiful with flowers sent by many loving friends. It was a charge of the Rev. W.P. Fink, a former pastor. Interment was made in the Martinsburg Cemetery.
