Michael Cassady

Michael Cassady was born in Madison, Indiana, September 29, 1854, and passed away at his home in Farmington, Iowa April 8, 1936 at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 7 days.

Mr. Cassady’s parents moved to Keokuk and later to Bonaparte, Iowa when he was a small boy. Most of his boyhood days were spent in Bonaparte.

He was the third child of a family of 6 children, of which his father, mothers, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

He went to California in 1874, spending four years, returned to Bonaparte, where he spent one year. From there he went to Montana. While in Montana Mr. Cassady was overcome by sickness and in one year again returned to Bonaparte. He had remained in poor health from this time until his death.

He was united in marriage to Ella Sceavers, July 27, 1886, at Bonaparte. They lived near Bonaparte for one and one-half years, then moved to the Farmington vicinity, where they have lived since that time. He began serving as marshal at the Farmington Chautauqua and served for 22 years. He faithfully performed his duties and was well like by all who attended the chautauqua. He attended his duty in a polite, but firm way.

Those left to mourn his death are his wife, Ella Cassady; two brothers, John and Patsie; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Farmington Baptist church on April 4, 1936with the Pastor M. R. Rogers conducting. Mrs. Huffman, Mrs. Kelley, Mr. H. Miller, Mr. C. Miller rendering the hymns. Burial at Greenglade cemetery.
