John H. Brooks

John H. Brooks was born in Ohio Sept. 25, 1858, and departed this life July 27, 1935, at the age of 77 years 10 months and 2 days, at his home near Douds, Iowa.

He had spent most of his entire life in Van Buren county, coming to this state in the fall of 1871. He was united in marriage to Nancy C. Godown March 23, 1890. this union was blessed with four children, two sons, Lee of Davenport, Iowa, Oscar of Douds; two daughters, Mrs. Isaac Pickens of Keosauqua, and Mrs. Vern Lagle of Bloomfield.

Besides his wife and four children he is survived by 8 grandchildren, several relatives and friends.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, an ever faithful neighbor. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 29, at 2 p.m. at the Leando church in charge of Rev. J. C. Austin of Keosauqua, and interment in Bethel cemetery near Pittsburg.
