DR. J. FRED CLARKE
Dr. J. Fred Clarke, 79, prominent Fairfield physician and surgeon, died Sunday at his home in that city. He was born in Fairfield in 1864, and had spent all of his life in that city except when in college and in army service.
During the Spanish-America war he commended the medical department of the 49th division of the service; and during the first world war he was commander of Hospital Unit R. one of two such operations from Iowa. This unit spent 14 months in France. Dr. Clarke retired with the rank of Lieut. Colonel.
