Joan Marlene Shackelford, 58, 0f Ottumwa died August 15, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Ottumwa. She was born July 9, 1956, at home near Thornburg to Louis and Pearl Martin Shackelford, grew up in rural What Cheer and lived in Delta until 1979 when she moved to Ottumwa. She had begun attending TENCO in Ottumwa in 1975. Joan loved her family and her Tenco family, enjoyed listening to country music and attending country music shows at the Eldon Fair. She also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs play baseball, had attended some Cubs versus St. Louis Cardinals games, and also loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. She attended camp most summers. Her favorite restaurants were McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver’s and especially her most favorite, The Catfish Place in Arbela, MO.

Joan is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Max and Linda Shackelford of Douds, her sister, Linda Conger of Ollie, a niece, Marlys Ruggles Sharp of Packwood, two great nephews, Derek Sharp of Ollie and Wyatt Sharp of Packwood, two great-great-nephews, Sammy and Nolan Sharp and her special friend of many years, Junior Dillenback 0f Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Marlys Shackelford, two brothers-in-law, Mickey Ruggles and Edward Conger, a nephew, Mickey Dean Ruggles, a great-niece, Dena Lee Sharp, two aunts, Evelyn Hopkins and Martha McKim, an uncle, Lester and a special cousin, Jim Mckim.

Funeral services were held August 18, 2014, at Pedrick Funeral Home, Douds, Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating.

Burial was in Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg.
