John Bell

John Bell, son of Elias and Sarah Bateman Bell was born in Allen county, Indiana, Jan. 1, 1854, and departed this life Jan. 1, 1937 on his 83rd birthday. He was united in marriage to Jennie Cretcher, March 25, 1886. To this union four daughters were born.

He was a member of the M. E. church at Mt. Sterling and was a regular attendant as long as his health permitted. His married life was spent on his farm south of Mt. Sterling until he retired.

His wife passed away Nov. 8th, 1926. There survive to mourn his passing, the daughters, Mrs. C. C. Paterson, Keosauqua, Iowa; Mrs. C. H. Westberg of Westwood, Cal.; Mrs. F. B. Wilson, Marshalltown, Iowa; Mrs. C. E. Melby of Seattle, Wash.; 7 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Electa Amend of Sterling, Kansas. A host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Mt. Sterling Methodist church in charge of the pastor, Rev. W. W. Griffin of Cantril. Interment was in Harness cemetery.
