Rev. Luther Kree Holcomb

Final rites for the Rev. Luther Kree Holcomb, pioneer Spokane contractor and builder, and well known Spiritualist leader, were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Cremation followed. The Rev. Mr. Holcomb had been ill for some time and died Saturday at his home.

He was 79 years old, having been born April 29, 1865, at Douds-Leando, Iowa. He lived there a number of years and learned the carpenter trade. Later he was a building contractor throughout the states of Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas. In early life he married Miss Mary Coy, who died some years ago.

In the spring of 1888 he went to Tacoma, where he was in the building and contracting business until April 1889 when he moved to Spokane. Following the great fire of August 4, 1889, he helped rebuild the city.

He was ordained a minister of the Spiritualist church after going to Spokane and organized the Spokane Spiritualist church of Science and was pastor for many years.

For many years he had conducted a school for the development of mediumship healing and expression. Graduates of this school are said to me some of the best mediums, and healers in this part of the country. He became one of the best known mediums and healers in the state.

Surviving are two sons, Clay and Ira, both of Spokane and two nephews, Dale and Daniel Holcomb of Douds-Leando, Iowa.
