Grant Ruby

Grant, son of Jabez Hunter and Maria Carolyn (McGreer) Ruby was born in Cedar township, Van Buren county, Iowa, April 3, 1865.

He received his early education in the public school near the old home. He had lived his entire life in Van Buren county.

He was united in marriage to Sadie Craig, of Kilbourne, Iowa, Nov. 23, 1898. Mrs. Sadie Craig Ruby and their only child, James Finley Ruby survive him.

Grant was the third son in the family of eight children, namely, John W., of Des Moines, Iowa; Nathan H., of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. J.B. Jacobs, of Stockport, Iowa; Geo. W., of Burdett, Kan., who passed away in 1922; E.H., of Des Moines, Iowa; Craig and Frank of near Keosauqua, Iowa.

His last illness was of short duration, during which time he was cared for in the Jefferson county hospital in Fairfield, Iowa, and where he passed away at 6 p.m., April 17, 1935.

A lengthy sketch seems unnecessary as the life he lived here in the community among his many friends speak for its self.

Besides his wife and son he leaves many relatives and friends to mourn this great loss.

Services were held from the Christian church, Stockport, Iowa, at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, April 20, Rev. L.E. McCargar conducted the service
