Bernard Schmidt was well known to Farmington people. He was a member of the High School Alumni, class of ’93, graduating under F. L. Douglas. He subsequently taught in the Grammar grade of our public schools and was assistant principal under Prof. Sollenbarger one year. Later he became principal of the Cantril school, and it was while filling this place that he was stricken with hemorrhage of the lungs. For more than two years he has patiently lingered, continually growing weaker. Last winter he visited northern Arkansas and southwestern Missouri in hope of relief, but all to no purpose. About two months ago he concluded to return home. C.G. Morris went to Missouri and aided him in making the return trip. …on Rev. Thos. Ratcliffe on behalf of the Modern Woodmen of American, of whom Neighbor Schmit was an honored member. A part of their beautiful ritual was used at the grave as the last sad rite. “Peace, peace, to thee and thine.”
