H.T. Brewster Dies at 66

Keosauquan Had Been Oil Company Agent 27 Years; Leaves Wife, 5 Brothers, Sister.

Harvey T. Brewster, well-known Keosauqua resident died at the Jefferson county hospital in Fairfield about 3 o'clock Monday morning after being ill about a week. He had been taken to the hospital Sunday morning.

Mr. Brewster was 66 years old and until he became ill was thought to be in splendid condition for a man of his age. Death was attributed to influenza and heart disease. he had spent his entire life in the Keosauqua community and had a wide acquaintance throughout Van Buren county.

For 27 years Mr. Brewster was the agent at Keosauqua for the Standard Oil company. He retired about two years ago and at that time was presented with a gift from the organization in appreciation of his long and efficient service.

He was active in fraternal circles and held offices in the Keosauqua Masonic lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templar, Eastern Star, Woodmen and Royal Neighbors orders.

Mr. Brewster was the son of Hardin Brewster, a stock buyers and feeder. His brother Otto and sister, Mrs. Lucy Harryman, died a number of years ago.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Addie Brewster; five brothers, Arthur of Fairfield, Clyde of Mt. Sterling, Oscar of Bonaparte, Orrin of Fort Collins, Colo., and Howard of Boulder, Colo., and a sister, Mrs. Charles Finn of Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Keosauqua at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. C. Hugo Orf will be assisted by the Rev. M.E. Hayes of Keokuk, a former pastor at Keosauqua. Burial will be at Center Chapel.
