Anly Roberts
Anly, fourth son of Isaac and Martha Ann Roberts, was born September 1, 1875, and passed to the Great Beyond May 20, 1936 at St. Joseph hospital, Keokuk, where he had been taken for treatment.
He grew to manhood on the farm home in Harrisburg township, Van Buren County, Iowa, and after the death of his parents he remained at the home with his sister, Martha until she died in 1927. Since that time he has lived alone as he never married.
Early in life he became a musician of unquestioned ability and his passing will bring sadness to lovers of music who knew him in those days.
His life was unassuming and virtuous, and he was dependable at all times. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Bentonsport, Iowa, where he was a faithful worker. For several years he was a member of the Board of Education in Harrisburg Township. Anly always displayed a kind disposition, ever willing to share the fruits of his labor with those less fortunate in life than himself, and the writer recalls times when Anly would give his last penny that someone else might not hunger.
He leaves to mourn his loss: three brothers, Ency of Sequim, Wash.; Elmer of Bentonsport; and Isaac of Bonaparte; also eight nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
It is well to remember that the early form we deposit in the grave is not the soul which we knew and love.
Funeral services were held at Bonaparte Presbyterian Church Saturday at 1 p.m. in charge of Rev. R.G. Alexander. Burial was made in Bentonsport cemetery.
