Samuel J. Harness Succumbs at 78

Mt. Sterling Resident Is Survived by 3 Sons and 5 Daughters; Rites Sunday

Samuel J. Harness died at his home in Mt. Sterling at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon following an illness of two weeks. He was 78 years old.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Lawrence of North Dakota, Leonard of Newton and Guy of Mt. Sterling, and five daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Obley of St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. Lulu Wells of Keokuk, Mrs. Clara Lerchie of Moulton, Mrs. Ethel Petrie of Farmington and Mrs. Ina Carruthers of Keosauqua.

Funeal(sp) services were conducted by the Rev. Jay Waterman of Cantril at the Methodist church in Mt. Sterling at 11 o'clock Sunday morning. Burial was at the Blackledge cemetery near Mt. Sterling.
