MARY GRIFFIN

Mary Nevada Hornish, daughter of William and Eleanor Harnish(?), was born near Keota, Iowa, March 30, 1868 and departed from this life September 3, 1942 at the Ottumwa hospital at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 4 days. At the age of five she moved with her parents to Rooks county, Kan. When she was 13 years of age her parents moved to another part of Kansas, leaving her with her grandparents, where she stayed until the year of 1886. In that year she came to Eldon, Iowa. On April 24, 1887 she was united in marriage to John Wesley Griffin. To this union one son was born. All of her married life she was spent in Wapello and Van Buren counties. In her early married life she was baptized into the Christian church but some years later she changed her membership to the Seven Day Adventist church at Pulaski, Iowa.

To all who knew her she was a kind and thoughtful friend. She leaves to mourn, her son Roy, two granddaughter, Mrs. John Robinson and Mrs. Stanley Plowman and three great grandchildren, all of Douds. Also two brother, Roy Hornish of Bucklin, Kans., and A.G. Hornish of Gas, Kans., and five sisters, Mrs. Maude Stewart, Stockton, Kan., Mrs. Nettie Foster, Park, Kans., Mrs. Dora Miller, Arlington, Kans., Mrs. Rose Chandler, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Chattie Whitwell, Auburn, Nebr. One sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted at Leando church, September 5, by the Rev. E.K. Parrott. Music was furnished by Mrs. Mabel Daniels, Mrs. Mabel Finney, C.E. Nicklin and Forrest Hanshaw, accompanied by Mrs. Lizzie Pollock at the piano. Pallbearers were Dale Holcomb, Curt Pool, Harvey and Harold Harryman, Charles Denning and Frank Plowman. Interment in Leando cemetery.
