Mrs. Sarah Cummins.
Mrs. Sarah Cummins died at the home of her son, Lewis Cummins, near Bonaparte, Iowa, August 3rd, 1913, aged 90 years, 3 months and 29 days. The funeral took place from her late home on Tuesday, August 5th, 1913, Rev. G. W. Barber of Chillicothe, Iowa, conducting the services.
Mrs. Cummins was the last of a family of eight children. She came to Iowa in an early day, and was one of the number who cleared the way for our present civilization.
Sarah Myers was born in Sciota County, Ohio, April 4th, 1833. She grew to womanhood in the state of her nativity, and came with her parents to Iowa in May 1839. They settled on a farm two and one half miles below where Bonaparte is located.
She was married to Robert Cummins, March 29th, 1849, and they settled on the farm where she made her home until her death. Six children were born to their union, three sons and three daughters; one son and two daughters preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn for her two sons, Alex and Lewis Cummins of Bonaparte, and one daughter, Mrs. Belle Wagner of Des Moines; also eight grandchildren and nine great grand children. Her body was laid to rest in the Rhodes cemetery.
