JAMES D. GRIFFITHS

James D. Griffiths, who had been seriously ill for some months, died at his home in Henry township, Monday, March 27th. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, and was in charge of Rev. C. E. Perkins of the Congregational church, assisted by Dr. C. L. Tennant, of Mount Pleasant, district superintendent of the M. E. church and a pastor years ago, in Keosauqua. Dr. Tennant's wife is the sister of Mrs. Griffiths. The burial was at the Center Chapel cemetery. There was a very large attendance of neighbors and friends, many going from Keosauqua. Mr. Griffiths was a native of North Wales, in Great Britain, where he was born, January 28th, 1862. He came to America in 1881, and with the exception of four years in Kansas, has made his home in Van Buren County during all the intervening time. He was married to Sarah J. Heath, Sept. 11, 1890, who survives him, together with their four children, Roy, Fern, Gene and Mary. Mr. Griffiths also leaves an aged mother, one brother and two sisters in England; a sister in Joplin, Mo, and a brother in Canada. He came of Congregational parentage and was brought up in that communion. A man universally esteemed by all who knew him, James Griffiths was a good neighbor, a considerate husband and [ ? ] father. The sympa[?]ance goes out to the family in their heavy sorrow.
