John A. Ferguson.
John A. Ferguson died at the Baptist Hospital in Chicago Thursday morning, June 1, a victim of a carbuncle which during the last ten days had caused confinement to his bed. This carbuncle had been bothering him for years, gradually growing worse until finally a few days before his death, Mr. Ferguson gave up the fight. An operation was performed last week but the growth which was on the back of his neck and had affected his brain and caused blood poisoning and his life could not be saved.
He was fifty years of age and had been in Chicago about eight years, moving there from Mt. Sterling where for years he had ben a prominent stock raiser. At the time he moved to Chicago he was a member of the board of supervisors of this county. He had a genial nature, and business character sufficient to make him successful in the firm of Rice Bros. and Co., a Chicago Commission firm of which he was a member.
Funeral services were held at the late residence, 5811 Jackson avenue, Chicago, Friday and the remains were taken to Keosauqua where they were interred in the Purdom cemetery. He is survived by a wife and one son, Dan, to whom the sympathy of many friends is extended.
Mr. Feguson was once one of the largest stock raisers and dealers in the county and [it] was his success and natural aptitude for this business in Va Buren county that finally caused him to move to the Yards at Chicago.
