DEAR WIFE AND GOOD WOMAN DIES

Mary Alice Chappell was born January 8, 1860 near Fairmont, Clark county, Mo. She was a daughter of George A. and Martha Jane Chappell, the second of eleven children.

She began teaching school when sixteen years of age and taught until she was united in marriage with John P. Bourn, February 28, 1884, who at the time of their marriage had four children: Etta Rowena Bourn, James Blair Bourn, William Hudson Bourn and Susan Belle Bourn, who she loved and cared for until the last, and in return the children were devoted to her. Mr. Bourn died May 25, 1923. Surviving are Mrs. Rowena Gregg of Eldorado, Kansas, and Mrs. Jacob Dierstein of Monmouth, Ill. August 22, 1885, Beatrice, their only child was born and died.

At the time of their marriage Mr. Bourn was cashier of the First Bank of Clark county. While devoted to her family and home she assisted her husband in the bank as bookkeeper, which position she held for thirty years.

In early life she joined the Methodist church of which she was a faithful member, taking an active part in all branches of church work.

She was a member of the D.A.R. and the Eastern Star of which she was a Past Matron, also a member of the Rebecca lodge. She was deeply interested in Red Cross work and was treasurer about twelve years.

Surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Jesse Taylor of Fresno, Calif.; Mrs. Homer E. Bailey of St. Louis, Mo.; Miss Florence Chappell of Dinuba, Calif.; two brothers, Dr. Elmore Chapell of St. Louis, Mo., and Orville Chappell of Dinuba, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

On November 4, she was united in marriage to J.M. Schnebly of Kahoka, Mo. Together they spent sixteen years of happy wedded life,

He proved his devotion to her by his constant care during her illness of the past year.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.M. Monroe, pastor of the Methodist church and Rev. W.M. Cooney of the Baptist church, at the Methodist church in Kahoka, Mo., Sunday, November 29, 1942 and burial was at Canton, Mo.

The singers were Mrs. Flora Belle Bash, Miss Ella Seyb, Mrs. Ross Fields accompanied by Mrs. Edna Seyb.

Pallbearers: C.I. Meister, F.E. Greenlee, J.L. Maggart, Marshall Story, Albert McKee, Harry Lewis.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. H.E. Bailey of St. Louis, Mr. Elmore Bailey of St. Louis, Dr. and Mrs. Water E. Bailey of St. Louis, Dr. Virgil S. Bailey of West Plains, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chapell of Canton, Mo., Mrs. Charles Chappell of Canton, Mrs. J.E. Dierstein of Monmouth, Ill., Mr. Anthony Dierston of Monmouth, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. John Kaylor of Burlington.
