ELMER ERNEST VORNKAHL

Elmer Ernest Vornkahl, son of W.H. and Sadie Brewster Vornkahl, was born August 14, 1889 near Acasto, Clark County, Missouri, and departed this life at the Graham Hospital Keokuk, Iowa, May 27, 1951 at the age of 61 years, 9 months and 13 days.

On February 25, 1915, he was united in marriage to Bertie Clifton. To this union three sons were born, Marvin, who resides on the old home farm, Merrill of Kankakee, Illinois and Melburn of Fort Madison, Iowa.

He united with the Anson Community Church in 1939 under the pastorate of Rev. Myrtle Dawson. He remained a faithful member until the last. He served as church board member, building committee member and was always willing and ready to help where needed in church and community.

He is survived by his wife, Bertie, three sons, Marvin, Merrill and Melburn, two daughters-in-law, Verna and Betty and one little granddaughter, Karen whom he loved and guided so tenderly. Also three sisters, Mrs. Mary Von Seggen, Miss Ada Vornkahl and Miss Effie Vornkahl of Farmington, Iowa, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Elmer was a man of quiet manner and kind personality, who also possessed that great spirit of malice toward none, but lasting friendship to those who knew him. He will be sadly missed by all.

A brother to all who knew him
A friend who was steadfast and true
With a love of virtue and honor
Greater by far than he knew.
When humble work is dignified
And progress follows thru,
The good you have done for others
Comes smiling back to you.
