Death of Honorable H. A. Spruance
Hon. H. A. Spruance died at Denver on Saturday, aged about 45 years. Mr. Spruance married "Joe" Hopkins, a daughter of Mr. T. H. Hopkins, Sr., of Bonaparte, about 1875. Mr. Spruance was then a resident of Georgetown, Col., and returned to that place with his bride. He was a gentleman of ability and pleasing manners, and became one of the leading republicans of Colorado. He was successively elected sheriff, clerk of the courts of his county and auditor of state,, which office he held four years, and was at one time a candidate for nomination for governor, but was beaten. About that time his uncle died leaving him a considerable fortune, and returned from Denver to Georgetown where he had since resided until about two weeks ago, when he moved to Denver on account of the higher alktitude of Georgetown affecting his wife's health. He was taken ill Tuesdaty of some trouble of the abdomen and expired Saturday while a surgical operation was being performed.

Mr. Spruance lived to his young manhood at Kahoka, Mo., being a nephew of the late Col. Hiller of that place. Although an active and shrewd political leader he was one of the most genial and interesting of companions, and every one who knew him was his friend.

Mrs. Ida Stafford, of Bonaparte, his sister in law, departed for Denver Friday of the first news of Mr. Spruance's illness. His death is felt as a personal bereavement to all who knew him.
