Clarence H. Hornbaker

Clarence Henry Hornbaker, son of Martin and Sarah Tompkins Hornbaker, was born in Henry township, Van Buren county, Iowa Jan. 24, 1881, and passed away at his home Sunday morning, Aug. 20, 1950, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 26 days.

He was united in marriage with Miss Jessie Frances Simmons of Farmington, March 11, 1911. To this union two sons were born, Martin H., living near the home place and Ardella at home, who with the mother remain to mourn the loss of husband and father. He was preceded in death by a step-sister, Thelma, who passed away Oct. 11, 1931.

“Pete” as he was called by everyone spent his entire life on the farm homesteaded by his grandfather Benjamin Hornbaker and took great interest in community improvement. His greatest pleasure was his family and friends and he also took pride in his garden, flowers, and fruit. He had been in failing health the past year and seriously ill the last 5 months.

Clarence, the youngest of three children, was preceded in death bt two brothers, Orlando W. and Marion P.
