MRS. CLARA SLUTZ

Ft. Madison-Mrs. Clara Slutz, 86, resident of 504 Avenue L, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart hospital. She had been ill 3 months.

She was born Nov. 13, 1858 at Cincinnati, O. For 25 years she was a resident of Mt. Zion and Birmingham. She came to Ft. Madison after the death of her husband, John Slutz, June 20, 1939. They were married Oct. 3, 1872 at Mt. Zion. She was a member of the Methodist church at Mt. Zion.

Surviving are one son, Bethe?, Ft. Madison, 3 daughters, Mrs. H.J. Hughes, with whom she made her home in Ft. Madison, Mrs. Adolph Brandt, Davenport, and Mrs. C.N. Priddy, Chicago, 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Harley Johnston, Birmingham, and Mahlon Johnston, in California, and 2 sisters, Mrs. Frank Portlock, New London, and Mrs. Martha Smith, Des Moines.

Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian church at Mt. Zion, with burial at Forbes cemetery near Mt. Zion. Rev. Howard C. Irvine, pastor of the church, will officiate.
