Marvin Ruble, Fred Snyder in Fatal Collision
-------------
Fog Blamed for Accident at Foster, Ill.,
Claiming Lives of Van Buren County Men

Marvin Ruble of Douds and Fred Snyder of Birmingham were killed instantly when the produce truck in which they were riding struck a freight train at Princeton, Ill., between 2 and 3 o’clock Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred in a heavy fog. Another car hit the train on the opposite side at about the same instant, the driver escaping with minor injuries.

A produce driver from Morning Sun was following the Van Buren county truck which was en route to Chicago with a load of poultry. He witnessed the accident and notified George Blew of Douds, proprietor of the Douds Produce company, which owned the truck.

Mr. Blew and Ben Young of Fairfield, who owned part of the consignment of poultry, went to Princeton at once. Harold Catcott of Birmingham and Clarence Pedrick of Douds went to Illinois for the bodies.

Mr. Ruble, who was 24 years old, had been married about five months and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ruble of Douds. His wife, the former Dorothy Eyestone, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zane Eyestone of Libertyville.

Mr. Snyder was 39 years old and leaves his wife and a son, Dale, 8. Mrs. Snyder was formerly Mamie Van Syoc of Fairfield. Mr. Snyder’s parents are Harry Snyder of Birmingham and Mrs. Lavina Snyder of Fairfield. He owned and operated a produce store in Birmingham until a short time ago and lately has been working for Mr. Young in Fairfield.
