MRS. R.J. BARKER TAKEN BY DEATH

HER MOTHER, MRS. MARY TEAL, DIED AT HER HOME MONDAY OF THIS WEEK.

Keosauqua, Jan. 3.-Mrs. Ethel Teal Barker, 56 years old, wife of Robert J. Barker, three miles south of here, died in the St. Joseph hospital at Ottumwa Friday afternoon. Her mother, Mrs. Mary Teal, died at the Barker home Monday after noon.

The mother was 84 years of age and had been ill but a short time. Mrs. Barker had suffered from a slight attack of pnuemonia, but was improving when, on Tuesday night she became violently ill. She was removed to the hospital in Ottumwa Wednesday morning, as her mother's body was being taken to the Utica Methodist church for funeral services. Mrs. Barker seemed to rally Thursday but early Friday morning became much worse.

She is survived by her husband and three children, Kenneth, who lives on a farm near the home place, Dale, who is a student at the State University of Iowa, and Janet, at home. She also has sister and a brother, Mrs. J.H. Keck at Keosauqua and J.F. Teal of Fairfield. Another brother Frank Teal, was killed by an automobile on the highway south of here about a year ago.

Mrs. Barker's funeral will be held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church here with burial here.

Mrs. Robert J. Barker has had a light attack of pnuemonia but was recovering when she took violently ill Tuesday night. Early Wednesday morning Dr. Nelson of Ottumwa was summoned. Her condition was considered very grave and she was taken at once to the Ottumwa hospital for an operation. At latest reports she was sid to be doing well. At the time the doctors and the Barker family were preparing and leaving for the hosptial with Mrs. Barker, preparations were being made to leave the Barker home for the funeral of Mrs. Barker's mother, Mrs. Mary Teal, who died at their home on Monday afternoon and whose funeral was held Wednesday morning from her old home church at Utica.
