YOUTH, 17, DIES OF PNUEMONIA
Streptococcic Infection Leads To Fatal Illness For Veryl Davis, Courier Carrier.
Pneumonia casued the death Sunday at 4 p.m. in the St. Joseph hospital of Veryl N. Davis, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott E. Davis, 227 North Moore street. Veryl was a newspaper carrier for The Courier.
The Ottumwa high school sophomore had been ill for two weeks. Pneumonia developed from a streptococcic infection.
Young Davis entered the employ of The Courier December 1, 1937. He carried route No. 75 on South Moore and South Davis streets. A member of the Finley Avenue Baptist Sunday school, he had lived here since he was 12.
He was born in Davis county January 13, 1922.
Surviving are his parents; a brother, Donald of Ottumwa, and his grandmothers, Mrs. Sam Pool of Douds and Mrs. E.L. Davis of Selma.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Finley Avenue Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. V.L. Currier. Burial will be in Leando cemetery.
The body is at the Pedrick funeral home in Douds, was schedules to be brought to Ottumwa today.
