Young Roush was wounded during the Normandy invasion and taken to an English hospital. Later he returned to his duties as a paratrooper and was again wounded over Belgium. It is believed he had again returned to duty at the time he was killed.

He entered the service June 28, 1943, when he was 18 years old. He was sent to Camp Roberts, Calif., for training as a paratrooper. In February, 1944, he was sent to Ireland, and later to England.

He had been awarded the Purple Heart.
