Eli H. Heaton was born in Preble Co. Ohio, Jan. 17, 1814. Departed this life April 26, 1899, being 85 years, 3 months and 9 days old. In childhood he came with his parents to Fayette Co., Ind. where he resided until his marriage to Margaret Goodlander, Dec. 29, 1836. They resided for a time near Knightstown, Ind. In March 1852 they came to Henry Co., Iowa, moving to Big Mound the next spring where he has resided a period of more than 46 years. Nine children were born to them, seven sons and two daughters. One daughter has preceeded him to the other shore, the rest of the children are all present to-day. Their married life extended over a period of 62 years. They were married December 29, 1836. Mr. Heaton was a useful, upright citizen, a loving and devoted husband, and a kind and indulgent father. His spirit has gone to his Creator.
