MRS. JESSIE STIRLING,

wife of John Stirling, Sr., was born in Kirkaldy, Scotland March 25th, 1825 and died in Farmington, Iowa Oct. 10, 1899. Aged 74 years, 6 months and 15 days. Her maiden name was Jessie Reid. She grew to womanhood in the locality in which she was born and subsequently moved with her parents to Stirlingshire where she was married to John Stirling at Alva, Stirlingshire Nov. 11, 1846. To this union was born 13 children, 6 sons and 7 daughters. Four of these died in childhood and the fifth, Miss Janette, died in Farmington, Iowa, Aug. 26, 1894. She came from Scotland to America in 1858 (her husband having come to this country the previous year) and the family settled in Littleton, New Hampshire, where they remained until 1866, when they came west living a short time in Henderson county, Illinois. Coming to Bonaparte, Iowa, in January 1867, their home has been in Iowa ever since, with the exception of one year spent in Kansas, having lived in Farmington for the last eleven years. In her early married life she with her husband united with the Kirk of Scotland, known as the Scotch Presbyterian church and never changed her membership from that communion. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband and four sons and four daughter, eighteen grand-children and two brothers. For nearly 53 years she with her husband walked together. An affectionate wife and mother has gone, a neighbor quiet and unassuming, yet abundant in good works. The funeral took place from the home this Thursday afternoon Oct. 12, 1899, Rev. G. W. Barber conducting the service.
