Besse Allender.

The College City Chronicle contains the following concerning the demise of the above named young lady, who was so well known in Bonaparte.

"The young life of Besse, the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I.W. Allender, ended its earthly career about 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, July 3, 1898, at the age of 19 years and five months. The funeral was held at the Saints'church, Tuesday afternoon, July 5th. The funeral sermon was preached by Elder J.A. Gunsolley and the remains were laid away in Rose Hill cemetery.

Besse Cymbeline Allender was born February 3, 1879, at Burlington, Iowa, where she lived until the family moved to Lamoni, February 3, 1894. She graduated from the Lamoni high school in 1897 with honor, her oration at the commencement being especially commented upon for the ability displayed. She had a taste for and naturally took to drawing and painting, and her ability in that direction was marked. Her father carefully looked after her musical education, and his devotion to her has been commented upon, and none feels the blow keener than he does. She is mourned not only by her father and mother and only sister, but by the Sunday School and the many friends of the family. The Sunday school appointed a committee to draft a memorial and resolutions of condolences.

Her declined was noticed about a year ago, although she had been ailing for some time previous. The disease was said to be tuberculosis, affecting the stomach and bowels. She has been a constant sufferer. Everything possible seemed to be done for her relief and cure, but all in vain, and at last the disease claimed the body and death set the tired spirit free. She is at rest with her God in whom she had implicit confidence."
