Obituary.
Arustus(sp) Dunn was born in Monroe county, Virginia, January 12, 1817, was married in Bartholomew county, Indiana, to Elizabeth Ann Mobley, February 18, 1846. Joined the Baptist church in the spring of 1838 and moved to Iowa in 1842. Joined the United Brethren church August 10, 1855 and was licensed to preach the gospel. He afterwards united with the Harrisburg Baptist church and was licensed to preach for the denomination April 24, 1869.
On Friday morning, June 4, 1897, he was stricken mortally ill, and although medical aid was promptly given, he rapidly failed, and on Monday, June 7, he peacefully fell asleep. Funeral services were held in the Bentonsport M.E. church on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. A.E. Thornley officiating.
For thirty years Father Dunn, with his family, had been a part of Bentonsport, and his honest worth and upright character, commanded the respect of every one. Well educated in the Scriptures, he was an excellent teacher of the adult Bible classes. There being no church of his choice in the town he divided his labors between the Presbyterian and Methodist churches. He leaves two sons and two daughters to revere his memory, Henry Dunn, of Pierceville, and George Dunn, of Oklahoma, Mrs. Sarah Lyon, of Bentonsport, and Mrs. O.W. Weyer, of Keokuk. The aged wife, who survives the companion of sixty one years of wedded life, commands the sympathy of the whole community in her bereavement. In a letter of love from her grandson, W.C. Richey, of Villisca, he enclosed the following for her comfort and solace:
"Do you mourn when another star
Shines out in the beautiful sky?
Do you mourn when the raging voice of war
And the storms of conflict diet
Then why should your tears run down,
And your heart be sorely riven,
For there's another gem in the Savior's crown
And another soul in heaven."**I research the LYON/DUNN lineage.**
