Fred Bragg
Fred Bragg, formerly in business here as a plumber, died Monday, Sept. 2, at 12:12 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant. The cause of his death being paresis, from which the deceased suffered for over a year.
The first signs of the affliction were mistaken by his friends for over-worry, it being noticed that in his business he appeared to be very forgetful and constantly worried. It was thought that a rest would do him good and he was accordingly taken south for a few weeks and it appeared upon his return that he was improved some, but that lasted for but a short time. Consultation with specialists in Davenport, the home of his parents, and in Chicago brought out the fact that he was suffering from the incurable paresis. Five months ago today he was taken to the hospital at Mt. Pleasant and his decline since has been gradual just a wasting away of the body and the mind. This is an ailment which frequently afflicts individuals, and it has never been cured.
Prior to his sickness, Fred had been a resident of this city for about six years. Three years ago this month he was married to Miss Myrtle Morton, who with their son, William, one year of age, survives him. His parents, two brothers and a sister survive him also. The parents and brothers live at Davenport. Mr. Bragg's mother and his wife both left last night for Mt. Pleasant upon receiving word that he was very low and they were with him at the time of his death. The body will be brought here for interment.
The deceased was well known here as an industrious and a capable young man. He was a fine mechanic and faithful to his work. His death at this time seems especially sad, as he had but so recently established a home and during the short time that he was permitted to enjoy it he showed his appreciation by being in it as much as he possibly could. he was a great lover of his wife and their little son.
