Mary Eleanor Miles was born near Covington, Ky., June 17, 1833. At the age of four years she, with her parents, moved to Iowa, settling on a farm near Vernon. Here her girlhood days and those of young womanhood were spent until her marriage to H.J. Robinson. Since then her home has been in Vernon. Seven children were intrusted[sic] to the care and training of this noble mother. One of the children, Joseph, died in infancy. The husband with the six surviving children mourn the loss of wife and mother. All were present when the silent form was borne to its last resting place. Although her death was sudden and came as a shock to many, it was not unexpected. For the past three years she had been in failing health, but was able to be around until this winter when an unusually severe attack left her with only the use of the left side. On Thursday last she had another attack from which she never rallied. She passed away calmly and peacefully on Monday morning March, 4th, 1901, at the age of 67 years, 8 months and 18 days. No other life is so potent in the home as that of a mother. God was merciful and spared this noble mother to train and council her children till they had reached the vigor of manhood and womanhood. This fact only made the necessary parting harder to bear. The influence will be more powerful now to lead to noble acts and Christian living than it could be while mother was living. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.R. Rolingson of the M.E. church.
