Death of Mrs. J.A. Fowler.
Amanda Perkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Perkins, was born at the parental home in Bonaparte township, Van Buren county, Iowa, January 26, 1848, and died at her home in Keosauqua, said county, the afternoon of March 13, 1902, at the age of 54 years, 1 month and 17 days. She continued her residence with her parents until February 12, 1867, when she was married to James A. Fowler. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Fowler lived in Bonaparte township, when they moved to a farm they purchased in Vernon township, a short distance from Mt. Sterling, making their home there until they moved to a farm purchased later a few miles northeast, but in the same township. In 1893 they moved to Keosauqua, which has since been their home. To them three children were born, two of whom are living, William H. Fowler, residing in Vernon township, and Mrs. Anna May Peacock, resides on a farm in Chequest township. The husband and these children are left to mourn for a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Fowler was a home loving woman and gathered around her many friends in the different localities where her residence has been. She was a member of the M.E. church, also of the orders of the Eastern Star, tributary to the Masonic lodge, and the Rebekah, tributary to the I.O.O.F. At 11 a.m., Sunday, March 16, funeral services were held at the M.E. church in Keosauqua, in the presence of a large congregation of sorrowing relatives and friends, Rev. W.R. Jeffrey preaching. The burial was in the Purdom cemetery where the remains were taken under the escort of members of the Eastern Star and Rebeka orders. A number of beautiful floral tributes were bestowed. The active pall bearers were F.A. Pearson, J.W. Burns, T.W. Haney, J.C. Calhoun, George DeHart and Fred Smith. The honorary pall bearers were Mesdames J.W. Burns, J.W. Rowley, G.F. Smith, Wesley Knox, M.B. Maltbie and J.D. Irish.
