William L. Carruthers

William Lemuel Carruthers, son of John and Mary Warrington Carruthers was born in Pittsburg, Iowa, Nov. 8, 1862 and departed this life at his home in Pittsburg, May 11, 1936 at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 3 days.

He was reared in the Pittsburg neighborhood and attended the Pittsburg school. Being mechanically inclined he spent the greater part of his life as a railroad engineer, working on the Burlington for any years.

He is survived by his wife, four brothers, K.C. Carruthers of Ottumwa; Jim Roy Carruthers of Troy; Ed and Lee Carruthers of Keosauqua; and one sister, Mrs. Nettie Jones of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at the Pittsburg M.E. church Wednesday afternoon in charge of the Rev. J.C. Austin. Interment was in the Pittsburg cemetery.
