Rites For M. Barker

Mae Barker, 84, mother of Frankie Beatty, 403 S. Second, died Saturday, April 9, at the Ottumwa Manor at 3:30 p.m., where she had been a patient for several years.

Although she had been in failing health for some time she was seriously ill for only five days.

Services were scheduled for today, Monday, at 2:30 p.m. at the Wellborn Funeral Home in Milton with the Rev. Elmer Hatfield in charge. Interment was scheduled in Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.

Ida Mae Barker, daughter of Jack and Jodie Johnson Sheehan, was born April 25, 1892, at Sunnyvale, N.C. She was a graduate of Yancy Collegiate Institute of Bernsville, N.C. and taught school prior to her marriage to Charles Dressendofer April 4, 1917, at Marion, N.C. He died April 1931.

She was married March 4, 1934, to Charles Barker in Lancaster, Mo., and for many years made their home in Milton. In 1958 Mrs. Barker moved to Ottumwa and has been a resident of Ottumwas Manor since August, 1969.

She was a member of the Albia Road Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Guylan Beatty, Fairfield; two sisters, Cora Pope, Marion, N.C., and Agnes Reynolds, Blacksburg, S.C. She was preceded in death by three sisters, two infant sons and a nine year old daughter.

A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church of Batavia and the Libertyville Church of the Brethren.
