Charles William Wilson (was) born in Summerset, Perry county, Ohio, September 24, 1853, (and) died at his home in New London, Iowa, at 11 o'clock p.m. March 28, 1929, aged 75 years.
He was married to Miss Addie M. Tracy October 29, 1874. He leaves but one child, Mrs. Stella Breneman of New London, Iowa, to mourn his death.
When 4 years old, Mr. Wilson moved with his parents to farm near Birmingham, Iowa. A few years later they moved to Bentonsport, Iowa, and a short time after they moved just across the Des Moines river into Vernon, where he was reared and was married. He graduated from the high school in Keokuk, Iowa, and attended the Academy at Denmark.
In the early part of his life he followed the occupation of teaching. After the death of his father-in-law, who was in the grocery business and had charge of the postoffice, he took charge of the business. While he was yet in business, he was licensed as a local preacher. He afterwards closed out his business and became a member of the Iowa Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church. His first appointment was to the Mt. Sterling charge. From there he was appointed to Main Street M.E. church at Ottumwa, then to Martinsburg and from there to Lovilla, Bussey, What Cheer and New London. His minstry covered a period of twenty years. He then retired from the Conference and moved to Canton, Ill., where he was employed by the International Harvester Co. for fourteen years.
Because of the loss of his hearing and also on account of his wife's health, he moved back to New London in order to be near his daughter.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father and a splendid neighbor and had many friends wherever his worked called him.
Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by one brother, John R. Wilson, of Macon, Mississippi, and a number of other relatives and friends.
