JOHN THOMAS GASTON
John Thomas Gaston, son of William and Rachel Gaston was born in Vernon, Iowa, Feb. 23, 1856, and finished his early journey Dec. 27, 1928, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 4 days.
He was married to Elizabeth Bashor Nov. 14, 1878. To this union one son was born. He suffered the loss of his wife in death April 16, 1886, leaving him with his son, Theordore, who preceded his father in death in the year 1915. Later he ws married to his first wife's sister, Martha Bashor, who survives him. After their marriage they made their home near Beatrice, Neb., for eight years, after which time they returned to Iowa, locating on the farm south of Bentonsport where they have since made their home. To this union were born five children, they being as follows: Mrs. Cora Elliott and Donnellson, David at home, and Mrs. Anna McDonald of Cantril; and two sons dying in infancy. He is also survived by four brothers and one sister, Jas. Gaston of Mt. Sterling, George Gaston, Mrs. Anna Gston, Chas. Gaston, all of Ft. Madison, and Wm. Gaston of Burlington; also five grandchildren: Mrs. Leona Kerr and Miss Juanita Gaston of Ft. Madison, Maxine Edith and Edla Elliott of Donnellson and Merle McDonald of Cantril.
Almost nine years ago he was stricken with a severe attack of flu which left him almost an invalid, but no word of complaint did he make of his condition.
He was a member of the Methodist church in Bentonsport.
Funeral services and interment were held at Center Chapel Dec. 29, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Samp of Farmington officiating, assisted by Rev. Bruvold.
