MRS. HANNAH SHEPHERD.

Hannah Jane McCracken was born March 22, 1841, and passed away June 25, 1910. Her union to F.O. Shepherd, Aug. 22, 1860, was blessed with six children, four suviving. They are Mrs. Nora Bales, Portland, Oregon; Elmer N., of College View, Nebraska; Misses Bertha and Carrie, who are at the home, and who through a serious illness of several years have bestowed upon mother the most tender care, sacrificing everything, that she might be comfortable, and providing the best medical skill attainable, which only alleviated the pain and subdued the suffering for a time.

Mrs. Shepherd was content to live quietly within the sacred portals of her home, a gentle, noble, christian mother, an unselfish and kindly neighbor and friend. She united with the M.E. church at the age of 15, and in 1878 became identified with the Seventh Day Adventists, in which faith she died.

Rev. J.H. Taylor of Bonaparte conducted an impressive funeral service on Monday, p.m. from the home of the deceased in the presence of a number of old friends and neighbors, who were endeared to Mrs. Shepherd by ties of friendship and years of association. Interment was in the Bentonsport cemetery. A profusion of beautiful flowers bore evidence to the love and esteem in which she was held. The Presbyterian choir of Bentonsport rendered favorite songs.

"God know the way. He holds the key;
He guides us with unerring hand;
Some time with tearless eyes we'll see;
Yes, there, up there, we'll understand."
